A.B. Original Dominate AIR Awards

Hip-hop duo A.B. Original have won five awards at the AIR Independent Music Awards in Adelaide on Thursday night, including a clean sweep of the best artist, album and single prizes.

Other winners at the 11th AIR Awards included Violent Soho for their latest third full-length, WACO, Julia Jacklin for her debut Don't Let The Kids Win and country rocker Henry Wagons for his latest LP After What I Did Last Night..., with newcomers Friendships and the artist formerly known as Chet Faker, Nick Murphy, splitting the electronic prizes. Meanwhile, Melbourne-based label Pieeater — home to Airling, #1 Dads and Big Scary — was awarded Best Independent Label. For A.B. Original, last night's dominance continues a remarkable year for the pair, who in March were awarded the Australian Music Prize for their 2016 debut Reclaim Australia, following on from their top ten finish in Rolling Stone's Best Albums of 2016 list. The duo also performed on Thursday night, alongside separate live performances from Elizabeth Rose and Russell Morris.
