Earlier this month, Caiti Baker — best known as vocalist in hip-hop duo Sietta — introduced her solo career via debut single "Heavy On My Heart", an energetic, genre-hopping fusion of jazz, soul, hip-hop and plainspoken reflection. Today, she unveils the accompanying video, exclusively via Rolling Stone Australia.
Shot in the rustic Melbourne Meat Market, the video is described by the Darwin singer-songwriter as a "performance video with a twist", with Baker singing and freestyle-dancing in front of a collage of projections that feature uncovered super-8 family footage from the 1970's and album artwork of her own music influences.
Drawing visual inspiration from the work of iconic director Hype Williams, Baker says that the clip — which was created by Melbourne-based team, the Sutardy Brothers — aims to "combine those classic [Williams] 90's RnB/Hip Hop aesthetics with the twist of [her] musical heritage".
"Heavy On My Heart" will feature on Baker's forthcoming solo debut album, expected early next year. Ahead of which, she'll be heading out for a string of live dates, starting this weekend.
