Melbourne-born, UK-based singer-songwriter, Kaity Dunstan aka Cloves, recently dropped by the Rolling Stone Australia office to perform a stripped-back rendition of single "Better Now".
Even with the rhythmic-punch of the original removed, the song remains just as devastating, with the fragility of Cloves' wavering vocals given unbound freedom.
The song has been a runaway success for the 20-year-old singer-songwriter, most recently featured on Elton John's own Beats 1 show. It also signifies the start of a shift away from the "acoustic and bittersweet" side shown on her 2015 debut EP, XIII, with Dunstan recently telling Rolling Stone that the "harsher direction" of "Better Now"'s chorus best highlights where she's heading with her music, explaining that "there's a lot of new songs that fall into that zone" on her forthcoming full-length release. The LP, expected later this year, has evolved throughout the creative process, with Dunstan stating that it "has gotten a lot sassier – I'm not giving as much of a fuck anymore!".
