Sorry for the wait. Despite tickets going on sale — and promptly selling out — over eight months back, there proved little worth waiting for as Drake brought his Boy Meets World tour to Sydney's Qudos Bank Arena on Tuesday evening.
While the technical side of the stadium show (lighting and pyrotechnics trickery) was spectacular, Drake struggled with the engagement of his own performance. The two hour, near-40 song set of hits ("Know Yourself", "Headlines", "Worst Behaviour", "Started From the Bottom") and selection of covers — Nicki Minaj's "Truffle Butter", A$AP Rocky's "Fuckin' Problems", French Montana's "Pop That" et. al. — lacked any form of continuity, with the Toronto MC frequently wandered out of time (and key), fumbling through backing track mixes and spending nearly fifty percent of the show complementing Australia — as well as side-tracking for a fairly patronising "I see you, I see you" crowd interaction (that went on for nearly 15 minutes.)
With a robust back catalogue worthy of such an indulgent, stadium-scaled presentation, Drake proved unable to inflate his own, admittedly endearing, profile to such a stage.
