Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins unveiled the bombastic new "Range Rover Bitch," the first song off his new album, KOTA.
Despite clocking in at under three minutes, "Range Rover Bitch" takes a dynamic trip across the rock spectrum, with Hawkins laying down an array of riffs from a deft, tapped-out melody to a sticky set of funky chords to a blistering punk burst. Hawkins even adds a touch of arena rock with his vocals, belting, "Said she'd take you to heaven/ But she took you to hell" before unleashing a Dio-esque wail.
Billed as a six-song mini-LP, KOTA will arrive November 11th and is available to pre-order via Hawkins' website. Hawkins recorded much of the album himself, though the record will feature a few guests (no names have been announced yet). According to a statement, KOTA is a "meditation on life as a rock star stranded in the suburbs," in the vein of Blur's Parklike and the Kinks' The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society.
While KOTA marks Hawkins' first album under his own name, the drummer has helmed several projects outside Foo Fighters. He released two albums with his group the Coattail Riders – a self-titled effort in 2006 and Red Light Fever in 2010 – and in 2014 debuted the Birds of Satan with Wiley Hodgden and Mick Murphy.
