Watch Kingswood Perform Solemn, Stripped-Back Rendition of 'Golden'

More

Alex Laska and Fergus Linacre of Melbourne's Kingswood recently stopped by the Rolling Stone office to perform a stripped-back version of "Golden", a track lifted from their latest LP, After Hours, Close To Dawn.

Taking the punchy-pop of the original down a few notches, Laska's vocals shift towards a more haunting, reflective tone, exposing the song's more sombre undercurrent.

After Hours, Close To Dawn, which debuted at #10 on the ARIA album charts last week, showcases a drastic shift in the group's sound. So much so that "the record label thought we were playing a joke on them", Laska said in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. "They thought we needed to change our name. Then they said I needed to go over the record with a heavy, distorted guitar. We were just like, 'Nuh'."

The band, and their new sound, hit the road later this month in support of the new record.
