We're standing side-stage at the Live Lodge chatting to Leroy Macqueen of the Gooch Palms when he catches sight of a large framed black and white print of him, naked and crowd-surfing at a previous Lansdowne gig, yanking on his junk harder than would ever be regarded as advisable. His mouth turns into a squiggly line and he says "I don't think I'm going to get nude any more." His band-mate and partner-in-crime Kat Friend overhears him and chimes in, "That won't last!".
For tonight though Leroy seems content to entertain the crowd with hilarious banter rather than slapping them in the face with his scrotum, and for a two piece with with a minimal drum kit (Kat just added a cymbal to her kit because they made a bit of money on their last tour) the Gooch Palms make a formidable wall of sound. Ripping through some new numbers and material from last year's Introverted Extroverts they whip the crowd into a frenzy (especially whenever they mention their home town of Newcastle).
Not to be forgotten were earlier sets from promising punks TOTTY and the increasingly popular Pist Idiots. Both are bands too watch in the coming year and were the perfect supports for the Goochies.
