After a few weeks being kept at bay by the final big releases of the year (first The Weeknd, then the Stones) holiday cheer has finally taken hold, with the top two spots on this week's ARIA album chart held by John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John's Friends For Christmas and Christmas by Michael Buble.
The Rolling Stones have slid back only as far as #3, with the top ten also featuring recent #1, Metallica, and just the lone debut entry, J. Cole's 4 Your Eyez Only. The rest of the top spots are filled out mostly by gift sure-things — Adele's 25, Keith Urban's Ripcord and Coldplay's A Head Full of Dreams, all of which have now spent 30+ weeks on the charts. The latter pair also getting a bump off the back of recent national tours, which similarly should ensure Adele's chart continuance through her upcoming debut Australia tour. (Incidentally, her 2011 album 21 remains in the top 50, currently sitting at #36 and celebrating its 170th week on the charts).
With Santa coming to town this week and few (if any?) new releases set to impact, it's likely the Christmas spirit will continue through to next week, ahead of the usual Boxing Day sales shake-up.
