See Run the Jewels Play a Decommissioned Paris Train Station

More

Run the Jewels played La Recyclerie, a decommissioned train station in Paris that has since become a community space, on their European trek this past winter. The location of the concert, captured on video as a "Soirée de Poche" and put on via La Blogothéque, was kept a secret until the last minute.

The people who made it into the show witnessed a short set of tracks from the group's debut, Run the Jewels, and last year's Run the Jewels 2. But the duo kicked things off by coming to the stage to Queen's "We Are the Champions" and chiding the French audience for not singing along with them. The concertgoers replied by yelling "aahhh!" and Killer Mike just smiled and said, "Bonjour, now let's fuck this shit up," before beginning the set properly with "Run the Jewels." Since the show ended a week before Christmas, they ended the set with the Run the Jewels cut "A Christmas Fuckin Miracle."

The duo has been staying busy so far this year with gigs in Australia, New Zealand and Los Angeles and one big off-stage project, "Meow the Jewels." The latter LP is a complete re-recording of Run the Jewels 2 with music composed of cat sounds, funded by Kickstarter. Last week, El-P offered a sample of the record and confirmed the presence of a special guest: Internet celebrity cat Lil Bub.

The rappers are spending what's left of their time fighting crime, at least in the world of Marvel Comics. In mid-January, the publisher revealed that two titles, Deadpool and Howard the Duck, would be sporting Run the Jewels tribute art on their upcoming covers. "We didn't know it was happening," El-P said to Rolling Stone US when the issues were announced. "We just got told it was happening and we were like, 'You can't be serious, that's not possible, how is that even possible?' Then they showed us the covers. And it's fucking crazy."
