Gold Coast singer-songwriter Amy Shark recently dropped by Rolling Stone's Sydney office for a delicate rendition of heart-breaking new track "Weekends", lifted from her debut EP, Night Thinker, released on April 21st.
"I actually wrote the lead riff about five or six years ago and I just could never work out, or probably wasn't good enough actually, to sing along with it because I couldn't play [it] and sing at the same time," Shark recently told Triple J about the origin of "Weekends", adding that she then "put it to bed for a bit", before resurfacing the song during the EP recording sessions. "I just started playing that riff and just came out with these verses and I was really, really happy with it."
Shark has just wrapped a month-long run of national dates off the back of her hugely successful breakout single, "Adore" — which charted at #2 in January's Hottest 100 countdown. She joins the Groovin the Moo festival tour from this weekend, coinciding with a run of dates in support of German folk-pop duo Milky Chance. Following which, Shark will head to the U.S. for her first overseas tour. Dates and details available via her website.
