A mournful Chris Cornell prepares for death by hanging in the video for "Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart." Jessie Hill's stylish, twist-filled love tale is set in the Wild West, following the rock veteran — and current cover-story subject — from his jail cell to the gallows, as he belts heartbroken lyrics over bluesy mandolins and a psychedelic guitar solo.
"Nearly Forgot" is Cornell's lead single from his fourth solo album, Higher Truth, out September 18th. The stripped-down LP – which follows 2009's Scream and his 2012 reunion album with Soundgarden King Animal – finds Cornell reuniting with Brendan O'Brien, producer of Soundgarden's Superunknown and Audioslave's Revelations.
"I wanted the album to be intimate and small, and so I didn't want to hire a band," Cornell told Rolling Stone US. "I also know how Brendan works. He's very focused and very quick and he always makes the right choices. Some of it was a leap of faith for me, but everything I wanted to get out of our relationship I got and none of the fears I had came to fruition at all. I feel like I got pretty lucky."
