At 6am on Saturday, March 18th (AEDT), British pop-electro icons, Depeche Mode, will perform material from their new LP, Spirit, live at an intimate venue in Berlin. The entire performance can be watched live via the 360-degree YouTube stream above. A separate version for non-360-degree enabled devices and browsers is available here.
While also promising a handful of classic tracks, the show will be the first chance for many fans to hear the new album, released internationally on March 17th.
Spirit was introduced last month via lead track "Where's the Revolution". The strong social message of the song showcasing the record's central theme: "a bitter, sorrowful elegy for the outside world", as Kory Grow wrote in his recent review.
In a Rolling Stone interview in February, vocalist Dave Gahan suggested the album's core influence might have been sourced far closer to home. "As I get older, the things going on in the world affect me more," Gahan explains. "I think about my kids and what they're growing up into. My daughter, Rosie, was deeply affected by the election last year... She just sobbed, and I was like, 'Wow.'"
Depeche Mode's Spirit world tour kicks off in May, with dates scheduled throughout Europe and North America until the end of October. No Australia shows have yet been announced.
