Over fifteen years on from their first start — much-praised debut, King Autumn — beloved Sydney indie rock group, Hoolahan, released their second LP, Casuarina, on October 13th. "Ev'ry Time You Go" is the album's lead single and comes accompanying with a home video clip, exclusively premiering today via Rolling Stone Australia.
Amidst shots of the band being swallowed up by bright lights (make your own metaphors there), the video partners under-focused studio scenes with interspersed swirls through a non-descript, but definitely Australian, suburb. Similarly, the song itself has just one origin — in an era of indie-rock now often-intimated — quintessentially Antipodean, all Flying Nun jangle beaten into pop focus, topped with ear-worming, adaptable one-liners ("can help you survive, if you'll only let us"). Through harmonies and tree-lined boulevards, constant blinding lights merge the two sides, a comforting warmth that compliments the optimistic side of the the song's leave/love scenario. Leading us not to an outcome, but instead, more lingering. "I'll be waiting". Yep, we have been too.
Alongside the release of the new album the band head back on the road, playing a collection shows from now until the end of the year.
