Earlier this year, Sydney producer Kilter released "Count On Me", a thumping, restless track that took his regular, house-skewed palette poolside, courtesy of a soulful contribution from Melbourne-based Lanks.
In a Rolling Stone Australia exclusive the pair have now reunited for a reinterpreted version of the track, performed live with acoustic guitar and grand piano.
Similar to the recent stripped-back performance of his own track, "Holla", at our Sydney office, the extra space suits Lanks' stunning vocals. While his passionate, yet somewhat sombre, tone is split by euphoric pulses and unexpected injections on the original, here the track haunts, embodying a reflective space of solitude.
"I wanted to pull back all the high-energy percussion and tricks in the production to show the song in a different light," explains Kilter, adding that his focus was setting up a scenario "where [Lanks] would really shine... and I could play a grand piano."
The new version arrives alongside the release of a new "Count On Me" remix package, featuring reworks by Autolaser and Jnthn Stein & Royalston, available now via etcetc. Kilter is also set to take the new track to North America next month for a run of club dates.
