Watch the Mountain Goats' Acoustic Reinvention of 'Andrew Eldritch Is Moving Back to Leeds'

More

Amidst a run of headline shows and an appearance at the upcoming Bluesfest, the Mountain Goats' John Darnielle swung by the Rolling Stone Australia office to perform "Andrew Eldritch Is Moving Back to Leeds", the lead single from new LP, Goths.

The track — revealed in February — features an update on the Mountain Goats palette, with Darnielle's all-acoustic foundation swapped out for smooth synths and surrounding brighter sounds. It sets the tone for the album itself, which the band have announced will be their first to feature "no guitars".

Here, however, Darnielle is in traditional modus, his heavy strums chugging alongside the unraveling, fictional tale of the Sisters of Mercy frontman returning to his birthplace, spiking any sense of homecoming heroism with the poignant line: "Nobody ever gets away."

Goths is due May 19th.
