Watch Rhiannon Giddens Perform Stirring Rendition of 'At The Purchaser's Option'

More

Founding Carolina Chocolate Drops member turned solo singer-songwriter, Rhiannon Giddens, stopped by the Rolling Stone Australia office this morning to perform "At The Purchaser's Option" from her 2017 album Freedom Highway.

Giddens told None Such earlier this year that "At The Purchaser's Option" was inspired by "an advertisement from the 1830s for a young woman".

"Thinking about her, and how she had to maintain her humanity against horrific odds inspired this song named for the end of the ad: 'She has with her a 9-month old baby, who is at the purchaser's option'."

Giddens is currently in Australia to perform at Bluesfest over the Easter long weekend, as well as play sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne. Further details here.
